Water sports
Lelystad has an abundance of water. The Municipality has no less than 17 kilometres of coastline along the Markermeer and IJsselmeer (formerly known as the Zuiderzee). Therefore, there are countless opportunities for both active and passive recreation on or next to water. For example, Lelystad has no fewer than five marinas with more than three thousands berths. In addition to two small beaches, Lelystad has a well-equipped indoor swimming pool, lots of open water, and a labyrinth of waterways where you can go fishing, surfing, or sailing in peace.
Sailing and surf schools
Surf School Paradiso Lelystad is situated at the Bovenwater in Lelystad. This body of water is ideal for water sports enthusiasts. The school offers surfing and catamaran lessons, has various water sports products, such as canoes, surfboards, catamarans, and pedal/paddle boats for rent. The Bovenwater measures approx. 125 hectares and is situated a stone’s throw from the Hollandse Hout forest.

Delta Lloyd Sail Training Centre Netherlands is a large and high-quality training institute. Both novice and advanced sailors can opt for extensive training and schooling packages, based on either the Dutch or English language curricula. In addition, one-day courses or sail subscriptions are on offer and you can rent a boat for your holidays on or around the IJsselmeer and Frisian Lakes.

Sailing School Pyxis Mare is a pleasant saloon yacht sailing school for both novice and advanced sailors. Based in Lelystad, sailing and training take place on the IJsselmeer and Markermeer Lakes, the Wadden Sea and the North Sea.
