Go and explore Lelystad! New Land, yet rich in history! Batavia shipyard, RACM Lelystad and New Land together form the BataviaStad Museums. Here you are given a splendid account of shipping history, shipwrecks and the draining of the polder. The museums are all within walking distance of each other.
Batavia shipyard
Batavia shipyard enjoys a worldwide reputation for the reconstruction of the VOC ship Batavia, yet the current construction programme involves De 7 Provinces: a new ship of Michiel de Ruyter. Through the construction of lifelike replicas, history is brought back to life again, but there is more! On weekdays, at the shipyard and from the scaffolding, you can witness the craftsmanship of shipwrights up-close when they process impressive oak trunks. Why not visit the exhibition at the same time and go on a guided tour!
RACM Lelystad
Do you want to find out more about ships and underwater archaeology? RACM Lelystad is the place to be! RACM manages the ship archaeological depot of the Netherlands. More than 30,000 objects from ships are on display. It even includes entire shipwrecks: from a Roman ship to a regular barge liner that was excavated in the centre of Lelystad. In the RACM building for ship archaeology, you can witness the entire process referred to as ship preservation. Specialists will be working onsite during your visit. This gives you an opportunity to see how ship archaeology within a national preservation programme works.
New Land
Do you want to meet the Swifterbant man face to face? Are you familiar with the tragedy that took place on the former Schokland Island? How was the new polder land created? New Land wants to introduce visitors to the history of Flevoland. The heritage centre, with interactive presentations, takes you on a fascinating journey through time with islanders under threat and polder pioneers. Here you can also admire magnificent ship models from the collections of the National Museum Amsterdam.

National Aviation Theme Park Aviodrome
The Aviodrome, with its vast collection of historic aircraft, is a dynamic aviation theme park near Lelystad Airport. In addition to an indoor exhibition hall (approx. 6,000 m2) and a large screen film theatre, the park has extensive outdoor grounds with various historic aviation buildings and aircraft, including the legendary Lockheed Constellation. Children will find the Aviodrome both educative and entertaining!
